Tractor with Supercharged Engine VS Uncharged Engine, Which Is Better?

Under normal circumstances, high-horsepower tractors have superchargers, and there are basically no more than 80 horsepower. Tractors with superchargers have very high requirements for oil, and good oil must be used. Tractors do not pursue speed but high torque. Tractors do not need turbocharging because of the low gear ratio of the gearbox, because the diesel engine itself is sufficient.

However, according to national environmental protection requirements, all tractors now meet the national III emission standards. Most of the tractors that produce China's large horsepower III are basically powered by turbocharged engines or air compressors at tractor supply (air compressors at tractor supply). Naturally aspirated engines are rarely used.

Tractors use diesel oil. The advantages of diesel engines are simple structure, high thermal efficiency and large torque. However, it is relatively heavy and noisy, and its power is much lower than that of gasoline engines under the same volume and weight.

Tractor engine oil pressure is too low, mostly because too little oil is added to the oil pan; the oil pump is worn and the oil supply is reduced; there is air in the oil pump and the oil circuit. Therefore, maintaining the correct oil pressure tractor is very important.

Tractors are designed to carry cargo. Diesel engines are compression-ignition type. The pistons and piston handles are thick and long, and the stroke is very long. Due to the long journey, the speed is relatively slow, but the service life of diesel vehicles is much longer than that of gasoline vehicles.

In order to meet the national III emission requirements, the diesel engine needs to undergo technological transformation and upgrading. According to national recommendations, the conventional technical routes are: below 37kW (50 horsepower), it generally uses natural aspiration + electronic control unit pump or electronic control VE pump;  37kW-74KW (50 horsepower-70 horsepower), it uses supercharging Intercooler + electronically controlled unit pump; above 74kW (horsepower), it adopts the technical route of supercharged intercooler + electronically controlled high pressure common rail.

As for whether naturally aspirated or turbocharged is better, there is no way to say which one is better. It can only be said that each has its own advantages. The tractor compressor with supercharger has better fuel economy, and the tractor air compressor without supercharger has simpler maintenance and lower maintenance cost because it has no turbocharger.

In the past, people thought that supercharged engines were not durable and had a short lifespan, mainly because the quality of turbochargers was unstable and there were many failures. As soon as the turbocharger fails, maintenance of the tractor engine will begin. Tractor engine problems are mainly manifested as black smoke and weakness. Now with the popularization of turbochargers and the improvement of quality and reliability, turbocharged engines and turbocharged inter-cooled engines are becoming more and more popular among ordinary people.

Precautions for the Use of Supercharged Tractors

The following considerations require our attention. When using a supercharged tractor, be careful not to drive away in a hurry after each start. At the same time, pay attention to oil pressure on tractor, and use tractor oil pressure gauge kit.

Note that it is not allowed to run the oil pressure under full load immediately before the engine oil pressure is established.

Don't stop suddenly when parking, run it for a while at idling speed, so that its temperature and speed will gradually drop from the maximum value to prevent the supercharger from lacking oil and cause the bearing to seize.

Use the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer.

Maintain the intake system and exhaust system in strict accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.

There is no absolute difference between a tractor with a supercharged engine or a non-supercharged engine. As consumers, we should pay more attention to the tractor engine capacity.
