The clutch on the tractor is located between the engine and the gearbox, and is installed on the flywheel of the engine. It is a device that transmits the power of the diesel engine to the gearbox in the manner of a switch. The power of the engine is input to the gearbox of the tractor through the clutch, the first shaft and the auxiliary clutch shaft. The first function of the tractor clutch is to enable the power transmission between the engine and the gearbox to be gradually engaged to ensure the smooth start of the tractor; the second is to temporarily cut off the power transmission between the engine and the gearbox to achieve gear shifting and reduce the impact of gear shifting; The third is that when the tractor is overloaded, it can play a role of slip, prevent the transmission system of the gearbox and the rear axle from overloading, and play a protective role.

In actual use, the failure rate of the tractor clutch system has been relatively high. According to statistics, the failure of the clutch system of large and medium tractors accounted for 9.95% of all tractor failures in 2018, only after hydraulic lifting systems, hydraulic steering systems, and electrical appliances system, ranked fourth.

The most common faults and causes of the clutch:

1. Unusual sound of hanging gear

Abnormal sound of gear shifting or not gearing up generally means that when the clutch pedal is stepped to the end, the engine power cannot be completely cut off, which causes difficulty in gear shifting or a strong rattling sound. At this time, the free stroke of the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted. The gap between the normal separation bearing and the head of the clutch release lever is 2-2.5mm. After a period of use, the gap may increase by more than 2.5mm, and the corresponding free stroke of the clutch pedal will also become larger. The separation gap should be ensured to be 2-2.5mm, and to ensure that the tractor clutch can be completely separated when the clutch pedal is stepped to the bottom.

2. Abnormal noise at the clutch

There is abnormal noise at the clutch part when the clutch is stepped on. This is generally caused by damage to the separation bearing or the separation lever. When the separation bearing is damaged, the driver will step on the clutch pedal, there will be a noise of friction, when the clutch pedal is released, the sound disappears, at this time it can generally be determined that the separation bearing is burnt out or lack of oil. When the separation lever is broken or damaged, there will be a slight unsound noise when rotating at a low speed. When the throttle is increased and the speed increases, the abnormal noise will become louder. At this time, the cover of the clutch observation hole needs to be disassembled.

3. Clutch slip

Clutch slipping refers to the slow start of the tractor at low gear, the difficulty of starting at high gear, the tractor is weak, and the stopping phenomenon occurs when the load is increased, but at this time the diesel engine sound is normal and there is no stuffy car phenomenon, when severe, there is smoke and a burnt smell, the clutch disc is burnt.
