With the development of science and technology, ball bearings have been rapidly promoted and applied. In recent years, the technology has been continuously improved. The types of ball bearings are endless. They have a wide range of applications in many fields. Please follow us to learn about the work principles of ball bearings and how does it work?

Ball bearings work principles

The ball bearing is a kind of rolling bearing. The spherical alloy steel ball is installed between the inner and outer steel rings, and the frictional force in the process of power transmission is reduced in a rolling manner and the transmission efficiency of mechanical power is improved. Ball bearings cannot withstand heavy loads and are more common in light industrial machinery.

How does the ball bearing work?

The ball bearing mainly contains four basic components: ball, inner ring, outer ring and retainer.

The hardness of the retainer is lower than that of the ball and ring. The material of the retainer is metal (such as: medium carbon steel, aluminum alloy) or non-metal (such as: Teflon, PTEF, polymer material). Rolling bearings have lower rotational frictional resistance than journal bearings, so at the same speed, the temperature due to friction will be lower.

Ball bearings are generally used in low-load mechanical transmission equipment. Because the bearing area of ball bearings is small, serious mechanical damage is prone to occur in the case of high-speed operation, so in heavy-duty mechanical transmission, needle bearings are often used to increase the bearing surface to increase the mechanical transmission efficiency and reduce mechanical injury.

The ball bearing changed the friction method of the bearing, using rolling friction, which effectively reduced the friction between the bearing surfaces, increased the service life of the fan bearing, and therefore extended the service life of the radiator. The disadvantage is that the process is more complicated, the cost increases, and it also brings higher working noise.

What’s the functions of ball bearings

According to the national standard GB / T17587.3-1998 and application examples, ball bearings (currently basically replacing the trapezoidal screw, commonly known as screw) are used to convert rotary motion into linear motion. Or convert linear motion into rotary motion, actuators with high transmission efficiency and accurate positioning.

When the ball bearing is used as the active body, the nut will be converted into linear motion according to the lead of the corresponding specification according to the rotation angle of the screw, and the passive workpiece can be connected through the nut seat and the nut to achieve the corresponding linear motion.

Characteristics of ball bearings

1. Compared with the sliding screw pair, the driving torque is 1/3

There are a lot of balls doing rolling movement between the screw shaft of the ball screw and the wire mother, so it can get a higher movement efficiency. Compared with the previous sliding screw pair, the driving torque is less than 1/3, that is, the power required to achieve the same motion result is 1/3 of the rolling screw pair. Very helpful in saving electricity.

2. Guarantee of high precision

The ball screw is produced consistently with the world's highest level of machinery and equipment made in Japan, especially in the factory environment of the various processes of grinding, assembly and inspection, the temperature and humidity are strictly controlled, due to the perfect quality management system so that the accuracy can be fully guaranteed.

3. Micro feed is possible

Since the ball screw utilizes ball motion, the starting torque is extremely small, and there will be no creeping phenomenon like sliding motion, which can ensure accurate micro feed.

4. No backlash and high rigidity

The ball screw can be preloaded, because the preload can make the axial clearance to a negative value, and thus obtain a higher rigidity (by applying pressure to the ball in the ball bearing, when actually used in mechanical devices, etc., due to the repulsion the rigidity of the silk mother part can be enhanced).

5. High-speed feed is possible

The ball screw can achieve high-speed feed (movement) due to its high movement efficiency and low heat generation.
